Woman catches fellow airplane passenger sending an offensive text about her: 'I would be so mad'

A woman took to TikTok to describe an incident on a recent flight where she caught the man sitting next to her body-shaming her over text to another stranger.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

User @landenmewing, who goes by Landen on the app, has generated over 3 million views for her story about being “fat-shamed” on a flight by a stranger. According to Lauren, she and the man were the only two people in their row on the plane, so she knew he was talking about her specifically.

Some people are just not subtle. In similar cases recently, TikTok users have been sharing instances where they caught strangers taking photos of them without permission — women have confronted men taking photos of them at the pool, at the beach and even at the gym.

In this case, Landen said she was returning from a trip to Nashville in June when she found herself sitting next to a man who “had his phone out, like, way up [in] front of him,” to the point where she could clearly see his screen. She read part of the conversation and presumed it was with his significant other — the texter called him “baby” — and they were talking about the flight.

“How small is it?” the partner asked over text, referring to the plane.

“Too small with this fat a** next to me,” the man replied.

Given that it was just the two of them in the row, Landen deduced he was talking about her. Stunned, she was still able to covertly take a photo of the man’s text conversation.

“Hahaha,” the partner replied. “Tell her about keto.”

The photo shows the man typing his response, which Landen said was a crude joke about how the plane wouldn’t be able to get off the ground because of her. Then he also allegedly complained that he “hates being on small flights with fat people.”

Landen was able to laugh the interaction off in her TikTok but couldn’t believe she was body-shamed so blatantly.

“If you’re his wife or girlfriend and you see this, your boyfriend sucks,” Landen concluded.

Commenters were outraged by the exchange and tried to figure out a way to justify why the man would body-shame a complete stranger.

“If my boyfriend EVER said something like that about anyone, I would be so mad,” someone wrote.

“He totally thought you were hot and did not want his girlfriend to know that he was sitting next to someone attractive,” another person suggested. “Yikes.”

“Plot twist,” a commenter said, “he noticed a stranger reading his texts and decided to mess with her.”
