Woman on BMX bike killed in Stanislaus County train collision

(FOX40.COM) — A woman on a BMX bike was killed east of Modesto on Sunday night after being struck by an Amtrak train, according to the California Highway Patrol Modesto station.

The CHP said that just before 10 p.m., the woman, a 49-year-old resident of Modesto, was heading westbound on State Route 132 when she went around the crossing gate arms and directly into the path of an Amtrak passenger train heading north.

The woman was pronounced dead at the site.

The CHP said that the railway experienced some delays during the investigation and that it is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
