Woman arrested after DC Housing Authority cruiser stolen
WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities say a woman who had been handcuffed stole a police car in the District of Columbia and led officers on a chase that ended with a crash in northern Virginia.
D.C. Housing Authority spokesman Richard A. White says the incident began when a Housing Authority officer arrested a woman Tuesday for violating a court order to stay away from a housing complex.
The woman was handcuffed and placed in the rear of the cruiser. While the officer was outside the cruiser, White says the woman got into the front seat and drove off. It was not known if the woman was cuffed with her hands in front or back.
Police chased the vehicle into Alexandria, Virginia, where the woman crashed.
Virginia State Police identified her as 26-year-old Jessica Pierce of Stafford, Virginia. She was charged with reckless driving.
