Woman arrested after chase reaches more than 100 mph speeds in East Texas

CROCKETT, Texas (KETK) – A woman was arrested Wednesday night following a high-speed chase that started in Houston County and spanned other counties.

According to the Crockett Police Department, officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash in the 1200 block of East Loop 304 around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials said the caller reported being hit by a white BMW that refused to stop, and officers were able to locate the driver of the White BMW but they allegedly did not stop for law enforcement.

Authorities said that a high-speed pursuit ensued, including speeds over 100 mph. The chase went from Houston County, into Trinity County and into Polk County, according to officials. Officers were able to reportedly receive aid from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Corrigan PD and Texas DPS.

Officials said that once the pursuit entered Corrigan, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office was able to utilize a PIT maneuver to force the vehicle to stop. Officers searched the vehicle and reportedly found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.

Police said the driver of the BMW was identified as Crystal Ruther Taber, 40 of Crockett, and was taken into custody and transferred to Houston County Jail without further incident.

Taber was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while their license was suspended with previous conviction. Her bond is currently set at $22,500.
