Woman arrested, charged with robbery in cemetery incident

May 11—A woman with a rubber bat attacked a woman visiting the Portales cemetery last Sunday morning, Portales police said.

Francine Galvan, 26, was arrested and charged with robbery in connection with the incident.

Portales Police Capt. Chris Valdez said officers were dispatched to the cemetery about 8:40 a.m. last Sunday. Valdez said the suspect had approached the victim and demanded her belongings.

"An altercation occurred with injuries to the victim and items being stolen," Valdez wrote.

Valdez reported the victim was evaluated by Portales Fire Department EMS and taken to Roosevelt General Hospital.

Valdez said Galvan was identified and a search warrant was executed on a residence resulting in all stolen items being located.

Galvan was booked into the Roosvelt County Detention Center where she remained on Friday.

Galvan is also charged with a probation violation, according to the detention center record.
