Woman arrested for allegedly stabbing WeGo bus driver

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing a WeGo bus driver in East Nashville.

Metro police said the 54-year-old female bus driver stopped the bus near Broadmore Drive and Gallatin Pike in East Nashville at around noon. That’s when a woman, identified as 30-year-old Dericka Scivally, got on the bus while speaking loudly, prompting to bus driver to ask her to be quiet and sit down.

Scivally then began to yell and pulled out a kitchen knife, threatening to kill the bus driver. A struggle then ensued, which resulted in Scivally grabbing the driver’s braids and trying to cut the driver’s throat. The driver tried to fight back and was stabbed in the hands; her injuries are non-life threatening, according to investigators.

Police said there were 12 passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident. Scivally, meanwhile, ran off the bus and was arrested on Gallatin Pike at the Briley Parkway overpass.

She has been charged with attempted homicide.

WeGo issued the following statement regarding the incident to News 2:

“We are deeply saddened by today’s Incident. We want to ensure everyone’s safety on public transit and are assisting MNPD with the investigation. Members of the WeGo Safety and Security team are at the hospital with the operator who is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.”
