Worker accused of stealing over $200,000 from grocery store in refund scheme, cops say

A Georgia woman is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from the grocery store where she worked, deputies said.

The 47-year-old was charged with theft in connection with the nearly year-long scheme, according to an arrest warrant from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office obtained by McClatchy News.

Investigators said she took $230,390 from the GMC Value Mart in Rome from March 27, 2023 until March 15, 2024. The store sells fresh meat, produce and groceries.

The woman was employed at the market and made phony refund transactions to hide the missing money, according to deputies.

She was arrested April 1 and taken to jail, authorities told news outlets.

Authorities didn’t release additional information.

Rome is about a 70-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
