Woman, 84, born on Leap Day, celebrates ’21st’ birthday

NORTH HILLS, N.Y. (PIX11) — It was quite the celebration Thursday at the Bristal on Long Island.

For the first time in its history, a leap birthday was celebrated among its residents.

Lotte Higgins was born 84 years ago on Feb. 29, 1940 – a Leap Day. Therefore, she celebrates her “real birthday” once every four years when it’s a Leap Year.

Higgins is a resident of the Bristal Assisted Living Community in North Hills in Nassau County.

The Bristal planned to hold a “Roaring Twenties”-themed party to celebrate Higgins’ birthday.

Higgins grew up in Middle Village, Queens. She graduated from Newtown High School in Queens in 1957 and then attended Hunter College, according to The Bristal.
