Woman, 30, Dead After Getting 'Trapped' in Machinery at South Carolina Fabric Plant

A 30-year-old worker at a fabric plant in South Carolina died after getting caught in machinery, authorities said.

The accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. in Gaffney on Wednesday, April 10, when the worker — identified as Brianna Danielle Coyle — was on the job at Carolina Cotton Works, the Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said in a news release obtained by The State.

“Witnesses reported Coyle became trapped at the machine where she was working," Fowler told NBC affiliate WYFF-TV. "She was found by co-workers and transported to Cherokee Medical Center for treatment."

She was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m., Fox affiliate WHNS-TV reported.

Carolina Cotton Works was founded in 1995 and manufactures medical gowns and mask fabrics, as well as flame-retardant workwear, military apparel and auto interior fabric, according to its website

A company spokesperson has confirmed that an employee had died following a "tragic accident."

“We had a tragic accident at CCW today," a human resources manager for the company said, according to WYFF. "Unfortunately, one of our employees has passed away. We are deeply saddened and are cooperating with the proper authorities as we conduct our investigation."

The coroner’s office as well as the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration are now investigating.

The Cherokee County Coroner and Carolina Cotton Works did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional details.
