Witcher gives $1 million to United Way
May 10—HIGH POINT — The United Way of Greater High Point is the beneficiary of the latest large donation by local businessman and philanthropist Doug Witcher.
His $1 million pledge was announced at a spring gathering attended by members of the United Way of Greater High Point's Tocqueville Society. Of the overall pledge, $800,000 is earmarked to fund vital operations at the United Way over the next four years.
"This gift to United Way of Greater High Point helps to assure that our member agencies will continue to receive the funding necessary to provide services and assistance for those less fortunate in our community," Witcher said in a United Way press release.
The pledge includes $40,000 designated for United Way's annual allocations, and $160,000 will be used as discretionary funds, allowing the United Way of Greater High Point to swiftly address emerging needs and respond to the evolving challenges faced by our community, the press release said.
Jane Liebscher, president and CEO at United Way of Greater High Point, said Witcher has a long record of advocacy for both the United Way and the community.
"As the 2013 campaign chair, his leadership spearheaded a fundraising effort that yielded an unprecedented $4,860,000 — a testament to his ability to mobilize support for vital causes," she said. "His generous pledge will have a lasting impact, empowering us to continue our mission of improving lives and strengthening our community for years to come."
