ROCHESTER, Wis. (WFRV) – A 33-year-old Wisconsin man is dead after being found on the side of the road, subsequently leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old Wisconsin woman.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the area of County Highway J, just east of State Highway 36 in the village of Rochester, for a report of a man down on the side of the road.

Deputies arriving at the scene located the man, later identified as Joshua J. Billings, and noted he had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. First responders attempted life-saving measures on Billings, but he died from his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Several hours later, investigators contacted Billings’ girlfriend, 36-year-old Sarah M. Mcauliffe, at her residence. Mcauliffe reported that Billings jumped from the vehicle while she was driving but that she did not notify law enforcement and instead returned home.

Mcauliffe admitted that she was driving while intoxicated during the incident, and she was taken into custody without incident.
