Wisconsin man shoots crossbow bolt at neighbor, prompts standoff with police

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WFRV) – One person was taken into custody following a standoff in western Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Eau Claire Police Department, officers responded to a report that a person had shot at a neighbor with a crossbow on Sunday at around 12:25 p.m. in the 500 block of Maple Street.

Officers quickly confirmed no one was injured and set up a perimeter to secure the area.

According to the victims, 35-year-old Robert M. Willi allegedly shot toward them as they were walking between their home and Willi’s. Thankfully, nobody was hit by the crossbow bolt.

Officers attempted to contact Willi through phone and through windows that he had opened while law enforcement was on the scene, but he did not respond to any attempts.

The Eau Claire Police Department’s Tactical Response Team and Eau Claire County Regional SWAT responded to the scene. After they arrived, Willi exited the home and surrendered to the authorities. He was taken into custody without further incident.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found two crossbows at Willi’s residence.
