Winnebago County Circuit Judge Thomas Gritton also ordered the 21-year-old father to steer clear of alcohol and drugs, get a job or attend school full time, and undergo counseling, the local outlet reported.
Court documents obtained by the newspaper revealed that Root shook his infant daughter and knelt on her legs while he changed her diaper March 10.
Doctors said that Root's daughter had suffered nine broken ribs from the incident in addition to a broken arm and leg, Fox 11 reported.
Root reportedly told police he shook the baby because she was crying and he "snapped" because he hadn't enough gotten sleep.
After the incident, the baby was immediately rushed to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where she received treatment and was later released to a family member.
