Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to provide meals and snacks this summer to children in low-income areas

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) announced on Thursday that they will spend the summer providing children in low-income areas with meals and snacks as part of the Summer Food Service Program.

According to a release, The Wisconsin DPI, through the Summer Food Service Program, serves 2.6 million nutritious meals to children at over 1,000 locations across the state.

Officials say the free meals and snacks are provided to children and teens in low-income areas at sponsored locations and they are funded by the United States Department of Agriculture as the summer extension of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
