Wiregrass school unveils new name for baseball field

SKIPPERVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) —The G.W. Long Rebels won both games in a doubleheader against the Charles Henderson Trojans by scores of 7-1 & 11-7 on Saturday afternoon.

After the first game, the Rebels honored Hall of Fame Head Coach, Earl Miller, by renaming the baseball field after him.

Miller was surrounded by friends, family, and former players at the pitcher’s mound to celebrate what Miller calls his biggest achievement.

“It was such a big surprise, and I don’t know if I can explain my emotions,” Miller said. “Like I said, I’ve won awards before, but this is the top award I’ve ever won; because this is home, and this is where the people I know of.”

Miller coached the Rebels from 1991-2005, where he won 10 state championships in 16 years. He is also a member of the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, which he was inducted into in 2003.
