Winter Olympics: Light winds expected for women's downhill competition

While winds have been a significant factor at Alpine skiing events during the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, they should not be a detriment for the women's downhill competition on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

The conditions on Wednesday should be dry with temperatures ranging from minus 3 to minus 1 degrees Celsius, (middle to upper 20s degrees Fahrenheit), according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards.

Winds will be out of the west at 3-6 m/s (7-14 mph), which is considered light for winds in the mountains, according to Richards.

The event is slated to begin 11 a.m. local time Wednesday (9 p.m. EST Tuesday).

Olympic officials have already announced that Friday's women's combined event has been moved to Thursday as to avoid gusty winds.
