Kentucky high school students did their research on opioids, then put their ideas to work to create a message about abuse and addiction.

Winners of the "Don't Let Them Die" High School PSA Challenge were announced Tuesday in Frankfort.

Dozens of teams from across the state competed in the challenge. The finalists presented their marketing plans on Tuesday in front of the judges.

"Markestrella" from Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville was honored with the top prize; a check for $7,500. They will now work with WLKY to produce their public service campaign which will be broadcast across the state.

A team of freshman from Green County High School took home the second place prize of $5,000.

The winning PSA will direct people to dontletthemdiedot.com where addicts can get real-time assistance in the fight against addiction.
