Wine and snowshoes make for good pairing at two northern wineries
COLLINGWOOD, Ont. - A northern location for a vineyard can be a disadvantage — for making wine.
It can be ideal if you want to offer visitors a snowshoeing/wine tasting combination experience.
Georgian Hills Vineyards and Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery, two of Ontario's northernmost wineries, have developed snowshoe trails throughout their vineyards this season, says Grey County Tourism.
For apres-snowshoe, "sampling local wines and nibbling on artisanal cheeses is the ideal warm-up."
The wineries are located west of Collingwood near Georgian Bay, a region known more for skiing than winemaking.
A $65 package offered by Georgian Hills includes transportation from Blue Mountain Village to the Kolapore Uplands wilderness area, snowshoes, a guide and wine-and-cheese tasting.
