‘Armed and dangerous’ drive-by shooting suspect in custody in Windsor

DENVER (KDVR) — Update, 8:15 p.m. Police said at 7:53 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody.

Earlier: Windsor police are seeking who they described as an “armed and dangerous” suspect after a drive-by shooting was reported on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Windsor Police Department, officers responded to a call for shots fired at about 2:59 p.m. in the 600 block of Gyrfalcon Drive. Bystanders told police that someone in a pickup truck had fired four to seven rounds at a building in the area.

No injuries were reported.

At 3:05 p.m., two motorists near County Road 23 and state Highway 392 reported a man in a similar vehicle brandishing a firearm at them and were able to obtain a license plate number, police said.

That plate number was registered to Kyle Bertsch, 39, of Windsor, according to the department.

Police believe that Bertsch has left the “immediate area,” but a shelter-in-place notification was issued for a short time for the Gyrfalcon Drive shooting.

Police say Bertsch is armed and dangerous. He is described as 5-foot-8 and 195 pounds with red hair and brown eyes. Police say he was last seen driving a maroon 2017 Ford F-350 pickup with a Colorado license plate of ARD-833.

Anyone who sees Bertsch is asked to stay away and call 911.
