Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, man wanted for 35-year-old homicide found in Coshocton County

COSHOCTON − A fugitive from Pennsylvania wanted for a 35-year-old homicide was apprehended recently in Coshocton County.

Michael Breisch, 65, of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, has been charged with homicide, robbery and other charges related to the death of Rose Josephine Hnath in 1989 in North Whitehall Township, outside Allentown, Pennsylvania. Authorities from Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, stated advances in DNA technology helped investigators to connect Breisch to the crime.

Lt. Mike White of the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office said detectives in Pennsylvania and personnel with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation contacted the department regarding assistance in apprehending Breisch. White said Breisch was staying with a relative.

After a nationwide search warrant was secured, local detectives worked with other agencies in arresting Breisch without incident on May 16. Breisch was then extradited to Lehigh County and is being held in jail there without bail.

A news release from the Lehigh County Prosecutor's Office stated Hnath was a widow who lived alone along the Lehigh River. Family went to her home and discovered her body after she missed church services on Jan. 21, 1989.
