Tri-State says wind farm in Colorado's Logan County expanding to 91 megawatts
STERLING, Colo. (AP) -- Tri-State expects construction to start in July to expand the new 67-megawatt Colorado Highlands Wind project.
The wind farm in Logan County became operational last December. Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. says 14 GE turbines will be used to expand the project to 91 megawatts. Construction is expected to be completed this fall.
Under a 20-year power purchase agreement, Alliance Power Inc. of Littleton, Colo., and GE Energy Financial Services of Stamford, Conn., own the facility while Tri-State receives all the electricity and environmental attributes from it.
Tri-State senior vice president Brad Nebergall says current competitive pricing in the renewable energy sector has encouraged the company to add projects to its renewable resource portfolio.
