Win or go home: Following along with the Cape Cod high school tournament schedule

The MIAA state tournament for basketball and hockey is here.

On Cape Cod, Sandwich High boys hockey is the lone team trying to defend its state title after winning the Division 4 crown last winter. The Blue Knights are back in the state-title mix this season and there's some other local competitors trying to bring some hardware back. Five other teams (Nantucket, Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Tech/Cape Cod Academy, Martha's Vineyard, Bourne, Saint John Paul II) are also in Div. 4. The only other boys hockey team outside of Div. 4 is Nauset (Div. 3).

In girls hockey, six teams are representing the Cape, with two teams in Div. 1 and four teams in Div. 2. Sandwich is the highest-seeded team at No. 6 in Div. 2, but Falmouth is right there at No. 7 seed in Div. 2. The other two teams in Div. 2 are Martha's Vineyard and Barnstable. The two teams from Div. 1 are a pair of co-op teams in the Cape Cod Furies and Old Rochester/Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham.

Girls basketball have the most Cape representatives with nine teams. Mashpee stands as the only top 10 team, earning the No. 8 seed in Div. 4. Monomoy and Bourne join Mashpee in Div. 4. Falmouth will be the lone Cape team in Div. 2. Sandwich and Dennis-Yarmouth are in the Div. 3 bracket, and Saint John Paul II, Upper Cape and Cape Tech will are in Div. 5.

In boys basketball, Bourne is the only top 10 team with the No. 4 seed in Div. 4. The Canalmen will be joined by Nantucket and Cape Cod Academy. In Div. 2, Nauset is the only local, and Martha's Vineyard will be the solo team in Div. 3. Falmouth Academy, Upper Cape and Cape Tech are in the Div. 5 field.
