Country legend Willie Nelson added to the chorus of criticism of Trump's inhumane border policies. "What's going on at our southern border is outrageous," said the 85-year-old in a statement to Rolling Stone. Nelson was referring to the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their parents at the border, a practice that’s not just cruel, but, according to the United Nations, is also illegal.

Nelson has been a longtime supporter of socially progressive issues that extend far beyond his legendary love of cannabis. He co-founded Farm Aid to support family farmers, has advocated for LGBT rights, and campaigned for left-wing politicians like Dennis Kucinich. The Texas native has also spoken out about border issues before, telling Rolling Stone in 2014 that "the only thing we can do is take care of those kids, whatever it takes. They're scared. They're being mistreated. And it's not a good way to start off your life. But it's a good opportunity for us to show a little bit of humanitarianism and take care of those kids."

"Christians everywhere should be up in arms," Nelson continued in his recent statement. "What happened to 'Bring us your tired and weak and we will make them strong?' This is still the promise land."

Someone should tell Willie that we’ve scrapped the whole "huddled masses" thing-it’s now "Give me your MBAs and immigrants from non-shithole countries."
