Williamsfield man dies in Andover Township crash

Apr. 20—ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — A one-vehicle crash is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol after a Williamsfield Township man was killed Friday night, according to a press release from OHP.

"Preliminary investigation shows a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up truck, driven by James E. Bennett, 71, of Williamsfield Township, was traveling westbound when it drove off the right side of the roadway. The pick-up struck a drainage culvert and a utility pole as it rolled over, ejecting the driver," the press release states.

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene, according to OHP.

The crash occurred at 7:23 p.m. on Route 6, east of Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road.

Andover Fire Chief Matt Bush said his department was assisted by the North Shenango (Pa.) Fire Department and Community Care Ambulance. The Andover Police Department was also on the scene, according to OHP.

Bush said a dog was also in the vehicle, but survived and was taken by the Ashtabula County Dog Warden.
