Williamsburg Community Foundation celebrates 25 years with surprise grants

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — The Williamsburg Community Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary by donating $2500 to a local nonprofit each month.

A drawing was held during the foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration to select ten foundation supporters to choose the grant recipients.

Harold Philipsen chose BikeWalk Williamsburg to receive the grant in May. BikeWalk Williamsburg advocates for safe places to bike and walk in the city.

It seeks to create a network of sidewalks, bike paths and bike lanes that encourage the citizens of Williamsburg to bike and walk more.

The nonprofit aims to accomplish its goal through biking programs in the elementary schools, bike safety education in the community, Cycling Without Age to provide riding experiences for seniors, and the Bicycle Co-Op.
