Will Meghan Markle become a princess?

Meghan Markle marrying Prince Harry is basically a modern fairy tale in which the American actress becomes a British princess. But will she actually get to call herself that?

According to the Press Association, while Markle’s official ranking will be that of a princess, she won’t be allowed to be known as Princess Meghan, as she is not a royal by birth.

On the morning of their wedding, which will take place in the spring, the couple will be given their new official titles by the queen. If Harry chooses to remain as a prince, Markle will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales. If he is made a duke, which is more likely, Markle will become a duchess just like the Duchess of Cambridge.

Royal experts believe that Harry may take on the role of the Duke of Sussex, as this is one of the few vacant names left. “They’re quite limited in the titles that are available. The Duke of Sussex is the front-runner without any doubt,” genealogist Charles Kidd told PA. “I think the others are highly unlikely. Clarence hasn’t been used for a long time and it’s been sort of tainted by bad luck. Connaught, with its links to the Republic of Ireland, might not be suitable at the moment.”

However, Markle might not be known as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as it turns out that’s not even her given name. The actress uses her middle name as her stage moniker. She was actually born Rachel Markle.
