Wichita Falls got new police officers from the 77th Police Academy

Eight men were graduated from the 77th Wichita Falls Police Department Academy on Friday.

Six of them will serve in the Police Department and two will be with the Wichita Falls Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.

The police recruits spent 28 weeks in training and will now spend the next three months working the streets with experienced officers.

“Always remember our core values. They are not negotiable,” WFPD Chief Manuel Borrego told the graduates.

“I cannot be able to ever explain to you or anyone the amount of respect I have for police officers,” Mayor Tim Short said. “It’s a tough job. it’s a rewarding job.”

The members of the 77th Police Academy and Wichita County Deputy Ryan Chavis also received load bearing vests Friday. The vests were made possible through the Vicki McCoy with the James McCoy Foundation, the Dillard Foundation and Jake Skifstad with Shield 616, a project that provides protection against high-powered rifle fire to first responders.
