Why People Who Love Pickles Should Come to New York City in 2017
Two new pickle restaurants will open in New York City this year.
The first is Maison Pickle, which opened earlier this month on the Upper West Side. The restaurant has a heavy emphasis on pickles, although the real highlight is the French dip sandwich—a roast beef on a hero roll with au jus on the side.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, The Pickle Guys—a pickle shop on the Lower East Side—has plans to expand with a restaurant space this spring.

“We pickle many, many things throughout the year,” manager William Soo told Eater. “We’ll try to bring that stuff to the eatery.”
The retail side of The Pickle Guys offers customers a variety of pickles, including pickled tomatoes, olives, peppers carrots, okra, garlic, string beans, celery, mangoes, watermelon and much more.

Although the restaurant will focus mainly on the wide variety of pickled items they already sell, there will be other options available on the menu. Likely the menu will have burgers or sliders available for very hungry customers.
The casual restaurant will be mostly meant for takeaway, however a few barstools and tables will be available. The project is aiming to open in March or April. It has not yet been named.
The pickle restaurant will be kosher, in keeping with owner Alan Kaufman’s dedication to preserving the neighborhood’s Jewish history. In the early 20th century, the Lower East Side had at least 80 pickle shops but only a few remain today.
But the neighborhood’s pickle history is still alive. Legendary picklery Guss’ Pickles has been operating from the Lower East Side since 1910. The neighborhood also hosts an annual “Pickle Day” in September that draws picklers from all over the city.
