GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WKRG) — Nikki Haley may have suspended her presidential campaign, but that means nothing for Mississippi’s ballot, according to The Magnolia State’s Secretary of State Michael Watson.

According to a press release, Mississippi Code, Section 23-15-1095, says that a candidate for elected office must submit an affidavit to withdraw — which is required to remove their name from the ballot.

The deadline to submit the affidavit was before the official sample ballot was released on Jan. 22, according to Watson.

But Haley just suspended her campaign Wednesday, March 6, and the Mississippi Primary Election is March 12.

That means her name will be on the ballot.

“A public announcement withdrawing from the race does not meet this requirement, therefore no candidate’s name has been removed from the ballot,” the news release said.

Haley’s announcement of suspending her campaign places her alongside Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy as candidates who are qualified to appear on the ballot but have withdrawn from the election.

“All candidates were notified about the requirement pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. Section 23-15-1091,” according to the release.
