Why Meghan Markle Didn't Join Prince Harry and the Royal Family at Easter Service
This morning, the full royal family gathered for Easter service at St. George's Chapel with the Queen (and on Queen Elizabeth II's 93rd birthday, to boot). Prince William and Kate Middleton were there, and so was Prince Harry. His wife Meghan Markle, who is due with their first child "any day" now, was not.
Meghan's absence is not surprising, given how close she is to giving birth. But even on Friday, Entertainment Tonight reported that the Duchess of Sussex hadn't ruled out joining the royal family for Easter morning service in Windsor. A royal source described her attendance as a "wait and see" type of thing, that it was still up in the air.
The source said that in these final days before Baby Sussex's arrival, Meghan has been "enjoying her pregnancy and anticipating the days ahead. It is such a happy and exciting time." The source added that "she looks absolutely radiant and is taking each day at a time."
Meghan and Harry have chosen to keep the birth of their baby private. While there may be an announcement from the Palace that Meghan is in labor, it's just as possible that the couple will ultimately wait to share the news until after they've welcomed their baby girl or boy in private. The couple is expected to do a photo call with their baby a couple days after his or her birth.
In a statement, the Buckingham Palace explained Meghan and Harry's decision. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and world as they prepare to welcome their baby. Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family."
