Why is this Kings Co. bridge replacement being delayed?

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Due to the recent weather conditions, the replacement of a bridge located on Highway 41 will begin on a later date than expected, the California Department of Transportation announced on Friday.

Caltrans officials say they, in cooperation with MCM Construction Inc., will now be the replacement of the Kings River Bridge on Highway 41 on Tuesday, Feb. 6 due to unforeseen weather conditions. The Kings River Bridge replacement was formally scheduled to begin on Feb. 5.

Caltrans officials say this delay will address the structure of the bridge and ensure the safety and reliability of Highway 41.

According to Caltrans, State Route 41 will be closed both northbound and southbound from just north of the Kings River at post mile 30.6 to post mile 32.6. This two-mile hard closure is scheduled to last six months.

Closures may continue for longer periods of time, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur, Caltrans says. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and are suggested to utilize a reroute set in place.
