Why "Fixer Upper" Almost Never Happened
A world without Fixer Upper is a world I don’t want to live in - but as it turns out, HGTV’s most popular show almost never saw the light of day for a pretty surprising reason.
In an interview with the Today show on Tuesday, hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines revealed that when HGTV had first called to offer them a reality show, they almost didn’t call back because they didn’t think it was real.
“[Chip] was like: ‘It’s a scam, do not call them back,’ ” Joanna said. "’We’re probably going to have to owe them all this money, we don’t have it right now. Don’t do it.’"
"No way, José!," Chip added with a laugh.
"I remember thinking, ’Chip, this lady was a normal lady. She sounded really sweet!," she said. "So I called her back."
