May 14—Matthews achieves Spring 2024 Dean's List at Belmont University

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mary Matthews of Moultrie was named among the students who qualified for Belmont University's spring 2024 Dean's List. Approximately 44% of the University's 7,338 undergraduate students qualified for the spring 2024 Dean's List.

Dean's List eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Smith recognized at UNG Honors and Awards Day

DAHLONEGA — University of North Georgia students who showed promise, demonstrated creativity, displayed excellence, served others and exceeded all expectations had their moment in the spotlight during the annual Student Honors and Awards Day on their campuses this spring. The ceremonies were held on April 9 in Dahlonega, April 10 in Gainesville and April 11 in Oconee.

More than 300 student awards were announced, including Marcus Smith of Ochlocknee, who was awarded the Marketing Excellence Award.

Award presentations were divided by department, college, campus or the university as a whole.

Beckwith named to Dean's List at UNG for Spring 2024

DAHLONEGA — Brittany Beckwith of Ochlocknee made the spring 2024 Dean's List at the University of North Georgia for achieving at least a 3.5 grade-point average, carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester and having no grade lower than B.

UNG cadet Hurst honored at awards ceremony

DAHLONEGA — More than 100 military awards and scholarships were presented to University of North Georgia cadets at the March Military Awards Ceremony and a pair of April events during Alumni Weekend.

Cadets were presented with awards and scholarships for academic achievement, potential for leadership, and high moral character.

Cadet Dayton Hurst from Coolidge received the SFC Felton L. Farmer Scholarship Fund.

Costin wins Georgia's Own scholarship

ALBANY — Elizabeth Costin of Colquitt County High School was one of 20 students from across Southwest Georgia to win $1,000 scholarships from Georgia's Own Credit Union, the second largest credit union in the state.

"One of our favorite ways to give back to the community is through our Jump Start Scholarships, as they represent a direct investment in our future," said Robert Youngblood, southwest regional president for Georgia's Own Credit Union. "Given the rising costs associated with higher education, we value the opportunity to be even a small part of the successes sure to come for our exceptional students as they take the next step in their educational journey."

To be considered for the Jump Start Scholarship, Georgia's Own student members were required to provide a brief essay outlining their career goals and future aspirations. Additionally, applicants had to furnish their transcripts and display positive financial practices, community involvement and academic achievement.

Edmondson named to Dean's List at Jax State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Thomas Gage Edmondson of Moultrie has been named to the Dean's List at Jacksonville State University for his outstanding academic performance over the Spring 2024 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.5-3.99 GPA for the semester while completing at least 12 GPA hours of course credit.

Scarbor, Swartzentruber named to Spring Dean's List

ROME — Keith Scarbor, of Omega and Nicole Swartzentruber, of Moultrie have been named to the Dean's List at Berry College for the Spring 2024 term.

The Dean's List honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester.
