Whitfield Firefighters Charitable Fund event to benefit injured firefighter

May 9—Local residents and visitors to Cohutta Saturday will have the opportunity to enjoy live music, delicious meals and a silent auction, all while benefiting a local firefighter in need.

The Whitfield Firefighters Charitable Fund, a nonprofit organization, will host a benefit event at the Red Wolfe Grill at 320 Wolfe St. Those attending can take part in a silent auction and raffle.

Proceeds will go toward the recovery of Whitfield County Fire Department Engineer Ricky Pratt, who was injured while off duty on Jan. 17 "in a road rage incident in Atlanta when he was shot in the leg," the Whitfield Firefighters Charitable Fund Facebook page says.

Raffle tickets will be given out by Whitfield County firefighters and Charitable Fund members beginning around noon, with the event lasting until 9 p.m. One For the Road, a North Georgia Southern soul band, will perform at the restaurant from 5 to 9 p.m.

"He's back to light-duty assignment right now, but (Pratt) is still suffering from some complications from being shot and has not been able to return to full duty, so we're just trying to help him out to keep him afloat financially until he can get back to normal duty," said Wesley Williams, the president of the Whitfield Firefighters Charitable Fund.

Williams said Charitable Fund members, as well as Red Wolfe Grill owners Kristy Adams and Danny Adams, have gathered several raffle items. Danny Adams is also a firefighter.

"Blake Bowen Auctions (of Cohutta) is also going to be there," Williams said. "He's got some stuff that he's bringing that will be for the silent auction."

Some of the items Williams said will be raffled include a new tool kit, Yeti cups, gift cards and buckets filled with car wash items.

Winners do not have to be present when their name is announced, but Williams said people are encouraged to leave their name and phone number.

Williams said he hopes the event will have a great turnout.

"We'll be there by lunchtime setting up and it will last pretty much all day," Williams said. "There will be a fire truck there if kids want to see one and Cohutta's antique fire truck will be there, too."
