White Sox pitcher Miguel Gonzalez gets mariachi moment he has probably been waiting for
Shower-singers of the world, meet your new hero. White Sox pitcher Miguel Gonzalez got a chance Saturday to show he’s not only a top-level pitcher, but a pretty good singer as well despite next to no practice.
In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the White Sox invited the Mariachi Heritage Foundation to perform at Guaranteed Rate Field. During soundcheck, Gonzalez stepped in and showed off his pipes to his teammates and the rest of the stadium.

“I enjoyed it. I didn’t think I was gonna get all inspired until I did. It was fun,” Gonzalez told MLB.com. “My dad sang, I listened to it when I was little, and I’ve been doing it ever since but never like practiced. I just enjoy it with the boys.”
According to the MLB.com article, Gonzalez doesn’t practice singing and confines his performances to the shower. He didn’t even plan to perform with the mariachi band until manager Rick Renteria pushed him to the mic. Gonzalez is currently on the disabled list with rotator cuff inflammation.
For the record, the final mariachi product turned out just fine before the game, even if Gonzalez was confined to the dugout this time.

The White Sox also weren’t the only team to embrace a mariachi band for Cinco de Mayo, as Nationals manager Davey Martinez invited a band into his own clubhouse to play for the players.
