White House: All Trump harassment accusers are lying

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders backed President Trump on Friday when asked if it’s official position of the administration that the women who have accused Trump of harassment and assault are lying.

“We’ve been clear on that from the beginning and the president’s spoken on it,” Sanders told a reporter at the daily press briefing.

More than a dozen women publicly accused Trump of sexual harassment or assault during last year’s campaign, when the leak of the “Access Hollywood” tape revealed he bragged about doing so with impunity in 2005.

At the time, Trump categorically denied the accusations and dismissed what he called “locker room” talk caught on the tape. He even threatened to sue the accusers, but never followed through.

Earlier this month, the president was asked again about the allegations, which he decried as politically motivated “fake news.”

“All I can say is it’s totally fake news,” Trump said. “It’s just fake. It’s fake. It’s made-up stuff, and it’s disgraceful what happens. But that’s what happens in the world of politics.”

The issue of sexual harassment and assault perpetrated by powerful men has dominated the news recently after numerous women came forward earlier this month to accuse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of a decades-long pattern of behavior. Political journalist Mark Halperin was suspended as an NBC News contributor and had a book deal canceled this week after a CNN report detailed harassment allegations against him.
