White House confirms ongoing deliveries of security assistance to Ukraine
Ukraine “has been receiving security assistance” from the new package approved by Congress last week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during the April 29 press briefing.
“The aid into Ukraine is ongoing. They have been receiving that security assistance,” Jean-Pierre said.
While emphasizing the importance of operational security, Jean-Pierre expressed hope that the assistance would soon reach the front lines to support Ukraine's defense efforts. "I want to be very careful, because there is operational security," she noted, "but we hope that the aid will get to the front lines soon so that Ukraine can continue to defend itself."
On April 20, after months of debate, the lower chamber of the U.S. Congress, the House of Representatives, voted in favor of a bill to provide more than $60 billion in support for Ukraine.
On April 24, the bill was approved by the U.S. Senate and then signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Shortly after, the Pentagon announced the new $1 billion U.S. military aid package for Ukraine which included artillery rounds, air defense munitions, anti-tank missiles, and armored vehicles.
On April 26, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the allocation of $6 billion for the procurement of military aid to Ukraine from U.S. defense contractors.
