Where to watch the 2024 eclipse in WNY: list

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On April 8 at 3:18 p.m., Western New York will experience its first total solar eclipse in nearly 100 years. With the 2024 Great American Eclipse less than a month away, News 4 is compiling a list of locations around the area that will be hosting events to witness the eclipse.

City of Buffalo

Buffalo Bisons: The Bisons will be welcoming four NASA scientists to Sahlen Field on April 8, with ballpark gates opening at noon. The event will start with an educational and entertaining program at 1 p.m. General admission tickets are available for free at the Sahlen Field box office or can be ordered online for a $1 processing fee. The first 2,000 guests through the Swan Street door will be given free eclipse glasses.

Buffalo Museum of Science: Though the museum will be closed on April 8, it will be hosting “Eclipse-a-Palooza” events throughout the week leading up to the eclipse. All events are included with a membership or the purchase of admission.

Buffalo Zoo: The Buffalo Zoo is offering its open space to observe the sky without obstructions, all while surrounded by animals of the world. The first 500 visitors to the zoo between April 6 and 8 will receive a free pair of eclipse glasses upon entry. No preregistration is necessary for the event, and there will be animal ambassador meet-and-greets, as well as presentations from the Zoo’s Education Team from 10 a.m. until noon.

Hofbräuhaus Buffalo: Hofbräuhaus will be hosting a watch party in its biergarten, with merch, live music and food & drink specials. Reservations can be made by phone at (716) 939-2337.

SUNY Buffalo State: Buffalo State University will have eclipse swag, activities, entertainment and food trucks on-hand for its “Eclipse-fest” event, which will be guided by experts from the University. General admission is $40 and includes eclipse glasses, a commemorative t-shirt and other souvenirs. Click here for ticket information.

In addition to Eclipse-fest, Buff State’s Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium will be hosting its “Eclipse: The Sun Revealed” program through April 6, educating on what happens during an eclipse. Tickets can be obtained at this link for under $4.

East Aurora

Knox Farm State Park: Knox Farm’s “EAclipse” event has sold out.

Hamburg

Hamburg Fairgrounds: The Erie County Agricultural Society will be hosting “Total-ity Fun at the Fairgrounds,” which will offer paved parking, eclipse glasses, live music by Hit N Run, activities for kids and food & beverage vendors. Tickets are $50 per car and the event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lockport

Transit Drive-In: The Drive-In will be opening its spacious view of the eclipse to vehicles for the totality. Admission will be $5 per vehicle, with glasses on sale for $5 a pair. In addition to being able to view the eclipse overhead, it will also be livestreamed on the big screen. Dozens of vendors and live music will be present, and the Starlit SnackBar will be open for business.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls State Park: From April 4–8, Niagara Falls USA will be hosting eclipse activities, including programming led by scientists, subject-matter experts and astronauts from NASA with one of the most unique views of the eclipse across the country. In the evening, a few hours after the eclipse, there will be a fireworks show on Old Falls Street.
