Where did Publix just open in Florida? When will a damaged store reopen? What to know

Publix opened several new supermarkets in March and April.

The newest Florida store is in Sarasota County, and it’s big — more than 48,000 square feet — like most new suburban stores in the chain.

In March and April, Publix also opened stores in Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.

Here’s what to know about recent Publix openings in Florida:

Pembroke Pines: On Jan. 23, Publix opened a new store at 16024 Pines Blvd. in Pembroke Pines. The store’s neighbor is an older Publix across the street at Paraiso Parc at 15729 Pines Blvd. The older store isn’t going anywhere. “As a whole, we look for opportunities to best serve our customers and, in some cases, alleviate congestion in stores, in addition to allowing for the best traffic patterns in a particular area,” said Lindsey Willis, media relations manager for Publix.

Reopenings in Florida

Fort Myers Beach: Publix isn’t saying when a hurricane-amaged store on Estero Boulevard will reopen. Local TV station WBBH-NBC2 is reporting that the reopening is expected May 25. “We want our little Publix on the island,” Fort Myers Beach Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt told the station. “We love our Publix. I’m hungering for Publix. Not just for grocery shopping, but to get a sub at the deli.” The store has been shuttered since Hurricane Ian steamrolled the area last September. Publix’s statement on the reopening: “Our team is working diligently to get the store prepped and ready for reopening. We are going through our standard processes before we open any store to ensure we are prepared to provide all our customers with the best possible experience.”
