Where to get bottled water as Killian water system failure continues

KILLIAN, La. (BRPROUD) — Officials in Killian are still investigating the ongoing brown water issue.

According to a Wednesday Facebook post, brown water appeared on the west side of town around 9 p.m. on Monday, April 22. The mayor of Killian began flushing lines with no development.

Authorities issued a boil water advisory on Tuesday for approximately 40 homes situated on the west side of Killian.

“Throughout the day Tuesday, the bad water continued to expand with poor water quality found east of Town Hall on 22 and as far south as Austin Street,” the post said.

According to the post, the mayor signed the emergency declaration and sent it to the parish. The parish OEP and parish government signed emergency declarations as well.

Water samples were collected from many places. They have been sent for testing. The source or what was in the water is still unknown, officials said.

Residents can visit the town hall and get two cases of water per member of the household.

“If supplies run low, we may have to change that and will update if/when we make that change,” the post said.

Officials also encourage those with special needs or who are mobility impaired to contact town hall at 225-522-6785. Someone will bring you water, according to the Facebook post.
