Where is the 2018 Women’s March? Here’s what you need to know to join the fight for equality
On January 21st, 2017, over five million people all over the world marched to fight for human rights, equality, justice, and tolerance in the first official Women’s March. The first Women’s March was held in response to Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration and united people nationwide (and worldwide). It’s now returning exactly one year later, and will occur on January 20th and 21st. This means that if you weren’t able to participate last year, you have a second chance. But where is the Women’s March this year?
Last year’s official Women’s March was held in Washington, D.C., where thousands of women and men marched with signs that protested the Trump administration while encouraging equality and justice. Although this was the original and “official” Women’s March, it certainly wasn’t the only one. There were marches nationwide, both in major cities and even in small towns. That didn’t even begin to cover it — the marches were worldwide as well, happening on all seven continents (even in Antarctica).
Can we expect the same this year? Most likely. There are already many planned Women’s Marches all over the country, and more may pop up as the 20th and 21st get closer. There are marches planned for big cities like Birmingham, Sacramento, Anchorage, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, New York City, Cleveland, Seattle, Hartford, Chicago, Charlotte, Charleston, and Washington, D.C., along with many smaller events, most of which are happening on January 20th.

The Women’s March organizers have created another protest this year called Power To The Polls, which is happening in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Power To The Polls is a way to turn protesting into action. It’s the start of a year-long “voter registration and mobilization tour” that will help get voters registered as it increases support for women and progressive candidates. The organizers hope this tour will help secure progressive seats in swing states. It’s being held in Nevada because it’s a swing state that has the potential to turn blue during the midterm elections. Power To The Polls is happening in Las Vegas on January 21st.
