What's it like to work for Andy Cohen? Assistant Daryn Carp calls him the 'best boss' ever
A day in the life of Andy Cohen is every teenage girl’s dream come true. But Cohen has a life that needs managing, from his morning Sirius XM radio show, Radio Andy, to his late-night live talk show staffed with hunky bartenders and a clubhouse filled with celebrity memorabilia, to falling asleep alongside rescue dog Wacha under his twinkling disco ball. And, as the saying goes, behind every great pop culture provocateur and television pioneer is a greater dynamic assistant.
Cohen’s longtime assistant, Daryn Carp, stepped in as a guest co-host for The Morning Breath on Thursday alongside Jackie Oshry. And Carp spilled some serious tea about her boss or, as Cohen likes to call himself, Daddy.
“I normally have to be four steps ahead of him,” Carp says of her daily life as Cohen’s personal assistant.
As any Bravo junkie or Housewives aficionado knows, Cohen’s day to day consists of fielding calls from the network’s most revered. Therefore, it’s not like Carp is at home walking the dog and getting the mail.
“I mostly work 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Carp says of her grueling schedule. “I’m not harassing him and around him all the time, but he definitely screams ‘Daryn’ constantly to get my attention.”
Before snagging her current gig, Carp admits to Oshry that she hated almost all the Bravo shows and even told Cohen that during her interview. Despite her original network neglect, the Jersey girl admits that these days that she can’t get enough. Her role as an assistant has since been transformed into a stint as The Weekly Pregame digital series host and sometimes even as a bartender for Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“He’s very good to me. He’s a very generous guy,” admits Cohen’s right-hand woman. She added, “[He’s] the best boss.”
Before Cohen hits the clubhouse bar, the St. Louis native starts his day with a consistent request. “He [takes] English breakfast tea with a splash of milk.”
