WEYMOUTH – Superintendent Robert Wargo will leave the district at the end of the school year to serve as superintendent in Barrington, Rhode Island.

Barrington School Committee Chairman Patrick McCrann announced the selection of Wargo as the next superintendent in a districtwide email last week.

"It’s clear his previous leadership experience in Massachusetts has served him well, as our diverse Search Committee identified him as a leading candidate during our national search and interview process," McCrann wrote in the letter.

Wargo announced his departure in an email to the district on Tuesday afternoon. He said his last day will be on or around June 30.

"Since joining the Weymouth School District, I have been continually inspired by the dedication and passion of our educators, staff, students, families, and community members. The hallmark of the district is the creative, compassionate students that attend our schools. They are and always will be the most important factor of our work," he said in the letter.

The Weymouth School Committee selected Wargo in 2021 as superintendent following a search process to replace Jennifer Curtis-Whipple.

Wargo previously served as the district’s assistant superintendent of instructional services and support since January 2020, and previously was principal at Scituate High School and at King Philip High School in Wrentham.

Tracey Nardon, chair of the school committee, said in an email that the committee is "very appreciative" of Wargo's years of service to Weymouth Public Schools.

"During his time in Weymouth, Mr. Wargo led the District through our COVID recovery efforts, the opening of our new Chapman Middle School, and the relocation of our Early Childhood Center to brand new space in the Abigail Adams building," she said. "We thank him and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Nardone said the committee is looking into what its next steps will be in terms of filing the superintendent position on both a short-term and long-term basis.

"l'm confident that everything will fall into place," Nardone said.

Wargo said he will work closely in the coming weeks with the school committee and district leadership to help ensure a seamless transition.

"I am confident that the Weymouth School District will continue to thrive and excel under new leadership, propelled by the same spirit of collaboration, innovation, and dedication that defines our community," he said. "While I am excited about the next chapter of my career, I will miss being a part of this incredible community."
