'Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later': Bradley Cooper Looks Just Like Adam Scott
Wet Hot American Summer’s cult-classic status remains stronger than ever. The 2001 movie — which starred a who’s-who of current comedy stars — has given birth to its second Netflix spin-off series, Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later. Unlike 2015’s eight-episode prequel, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, the streaming service’s latest is a proper follow-up to its source material, set in 1991. As expected, it reunites just about everyone who popped up in the original movie. Except, that is, for Bradley Cooper — but that doesn’t mean his character, closeted theater geek Ben, is gone. In a new clip from Netflix (watch it above), we learn precisely why Ben now looks, well, so different — the spitting image of Parks and Recreation alum Adam Scott.
As it turns out, corrective surgery for a deviated septum is enough to transform Cooper into Scott — a bit of pseudo-science goofiness that’s in keeping with the general tone of the franchise. While Cooper’s nonattendance is disappointing, no one should complain about Scott’s inclusion in Ten Years Later, especially since it re-teams him with his Parks and Recreation cohort Amy Poehler. Her Susie — Ben’s stage partner and former girlfriend — seems to have finally realized that Ben is gay. Maybe the fact that he now has a kid with his husband (Michael Ian Black’s McKinley) tipped her off?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s co-creator, writer, and star Michael Showalter explained the inspiration for the casting device was National Lampoon’s Vacation series, particularly how another actor stepped in to play Anthony Michael Hall’s character, “and it’s just sort of ridiculous.” Here, “the joke is that everybody recognizes [Ben] completely and says that you can barely notice” the difference post-nose job.
Featuring a cast that also includes Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Marisa Ryan, and Molly Shannon, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is now available to stream on Netflix.
