Westwood senior wins car with perfect attendance

May 20—Westwood High School senior Aa'Niviah Mathis was the 2024 winner of Toyota's Driven To Succeed program.

For this year's drawing, held during the Westwood Class of 2024 graduation, there were ten key fobs and eight seniors, with two seniors earning double chances. Mathis was the second senior to draw.

"I didn't think that I was going to get it," Mathis said. "I was nervous and blessed that I got it. I am very thankful. It was not hard for me to have perfect attendance. I am in almost every single sport so I have to be at school. I was ready to graduate and this is my first car. It feels great and it will definitely help me in college."

Mathis not only received a free Toyota Corolla from Palestine Toyota, but $1,500 in gift cards from Kim's Convenience Stores.

"We want to thank our partners Kim Convenience Store because they have provided $1,500 in gas cards for the lucky winner," said Chuck Eldridge, owner of Palestine Toyota.

According to Eldridge all of the students participating in the drawing received a gift this year.

"You don't go home empty-handed because if you don't go home with the car and the gas, you go home with $100," he said.

Toyota has held the Driven to Succeed program at Westwood High School since 2018. Through this program, seniors with perfect attendance get to submit their names for the drawing
