Westport Fall Festival well attended

Oct. 16—WESTPORT — Saturday may have been cold, windy and damp, but that didn't stop the folks who turned out for the annual Westport Fall Festival from having a good time.

Several vendors offering a wide range of goods lined both sides of Main Street in front of an adjacent to the Community Building and town park.

The Community Building itself hosted a large community bake sale, and assorted other edibles and refreshments were also available there.

The day featured a large and colorful parade, music provided by a DJ, a costume contest, a bounce house, a baking contest, door prizes every 30 minutes throughout the day, and the always popular "Duckling Derby," among other things.

The Jeff and Sandy Greiwe's parade entry — a Jeep with a giant skeleton setting in the back seat — was judged to be the best and was the winner of the coveted Golden Pumpkin Award. Ernie "Turtleman" Brown Jr., from television's Call of the Wild served as the grand marshal.

Winners of the costume contest were Giovanni Dison, Vera Hamilton and Gage Crousore in the newborn to age 5 division, Kaelyn Mowery, Ellie Pritchett and Jade Crousore in the 6 to 12 division, and Cheyenne Young in the age 13 and up division.

A light rain fell for about 15 minutes a couple of hours after the event got underway, but it didn't seem to bother the crowd on hand.

The festival is organized and hosted by the Main Street Westport organization, and its president, Connie Davis, indicated she was pleased with the way everything went.

She also said planning and some of the work involved with putting together next year's event would soon be underway.

"It's always the second weekend in October," she said. "Put it on your calendar, we'll see you next year!"
