Western NY's O'Neil-White to chair BCBS board

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The president and chief executive of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York has been elected chairman of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's board of directors.

Alphonso O'Neil-White begins serving his one-year term this month.

The Chicago-based association is made up of 38 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that provide health care coverage for nearly 100 million people. The board of directors sets policies for the companies and provides strategic guidance and oversight.

O'Neil-White has led BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York since 2003, after joining the company in 1996.

Scott Serota, president and chief executive of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, says O'Neil-White's experience will help guide companies during a time of transition in the industry.
