West Virginia murder suspect arrested in Akron by US Marshals

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A man wanted for murder in West Virginia was found and arrested in Akron by the U.S. Marshals Service.

On Friday afternoon, the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 23-year-old Kameron Darnell Griffin in the area of Kelly Avenue and 7th Avenue.

According to a press release from the U.S. Marshals, Griffin tried to flee from a home during the arrest but was eventually apprehended.

Griffin was wanted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia after a kidnapping and murder on March 21, 2023.

According to the release, Griffin and others allegedly kidnapped Dallion Lewis from his home in Hepzibah with the intention of harming or killing him.

Lewis was later found dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

According to the release, Griffin allegedly shot Lewis two times during the kidnapping.

Griffin will appear in Ohio for his initial court appearance. If detained, he will be extradited to Harrison County to face trial, according to the release.

“Outstanding collaboration between the U.S. Marshals in Northern Ohio and Northern West Virginia led to the safe arrest of this fleeing fugitive. Not only did he flee from West Virginia to evade arrest but attempted to flee from arresting task force officers here in Akron,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott is quoted in the release.
