West Virginia DMV offers ways to renew vehicle registrations

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — For residents of the state, it is time to renew their West Virginia vehicle registration.

Residents will get that lovely reminder in the mail 60 days before registration expires. Luckily, there are different ways you can renew your registration.

What you will need to renew your registration:

  • Current registration card.

  • Proof of vehicle insurance.

  • Proof of your personal property tax payment before trying to renew your registration.

Options of where to renew your registration:

  • You can visit one of the West Virginia DMV’s 26 regional offices.

  • Your local county sheriff’s office.

  • Go to a WV DMV Now kiosk.

  • Visit the DMV website or scan the reminder postcard to renew your registration online.

An additional benefit of renewing your registration online is that you can get a free digital registration card, which can be stored in your smartphone wallet. You will also get a confirmation email showing how to download the digital registration card to your phone and a card in PDF format. A paper copy and decal will also be mailed to you.

Currently, more than 8000 West Virginians have already downloaded these cards.

“This is just another option for people and another step forward in modernizing the West Virginia DMV. We are striving daily to be the best West Virginia DMV that we can possibly be,” said West Virginia DMV Commissioner Everett Frazier.

The state of West Virginia requires that every motor vehicle, including cars, trailers, semi-trailers, pole trailers, and recreational vehicles to be titled and registered. Motor boats with at least 3 hp/70lb thrust must also be registered. Click here for registration fees.
