West Memphis Family Dollar distribution center reopening with 600 jobs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Family Dollar and Dollar Tree are closing stores nationwide, but in West Memphis, a troubled distribution center is reopening.

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon announced positive changes ahead, including the reopening of the Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Distribution Center.

“They had some little problems like infestation things came out that they had to get handled, but now they have renovated the building from top to bottom, from east to west. Brought in new management, and salary is going to be much higher,” said McClendon.

Family Dollar was ordered to pay more than $41 million for unsanitary, rat-infested conditions at the distribution center back in 2022. The infestation also led to product recalls and the closure of more than 400 stores.

Mayor McClendon says workers at the facility will no longer have to worry about the building’s conditions.

He says the starting pay is $20 an hour, which he hopes will help the community rebound from an enjoyment blow.

“When they left, it really hurt the community. You can’t imagine with the drop of a dime or a couple of months, a distribution company had over 400 people gone. At least 400 people were looking for jobs and other places,” said McClendon.

The grand opening is set for August.

There will be a job fair on April 3 at Arkansas State University Mid-South with a goal of hiring over 600 employees.
